K.B. CLARKE RESTORES 20,000 SQUARE FOOT FOOD AND FURNITURE BANK

The Parker St. Food and Furniture Bank which is located in Halifax, NS, is one of the largest suppliers of food and furniture to the poor and needy in the province. Mel Boutlier the director has devoted his entire life to serving these needy families and was obviously devastated to hear that after being set up at their new location less than three months they had sustained a large fire and their entire building was damaged as well as most of their contents and food.

Adding to the problem was the fact that the building was underinsured which meant that they had to cut costs but were faced with a great deal of building code upgrades. K.B. Clarke quickly assisted in determining which contents were salvageable and designated the least damaged section of building as the operable area as bids for reconstruction were being obtained. The project lasted over 6 months and was done section by section in order to allow them to serve their customers. At the Grand Opening which included all media, mayor and several other dignitaries, Mel presented several awards to the volunteers and was also kind enough to mention that he felt K.B. Clarke did a great job in reopening the centre.
