Kentville, NS K.B. Clarke Valley – Rebuilds total home After fire destroyed all of the insured’s contents and most of their home, K.B. Clarke was called to provide an appraisal on reconstruction. After the adjuster and insured reviewed the bids it was decided that K.B. Clarke had submitted the more complete and better-priced estimate and was awarded the job. What made this job unique is that the insured wanted to totally redesign the house at the same time so we had to differentiate claim costs from remodeling costs. Due to the extent of the claim this was a good time to perform any remodeling as essentially the house interior was gutted, roof removed and only the floor and walls saved. By moving a few interior partitions, a couple windows, wiring and plumbing most any room could be reconfigured for minimal cost. Another challenge the crew faced was to ensure we performed thorough smoke sealing and deodorization of the remaining building in the middle of winter with no heat to ensure no residual smoke smells would resurface. One of the many dramatic changes made was to the kitchen area. The former plywood cabinets were upgraded to solid oak, stove reconfigured, window enlarged to make this a far brighter and more inviting layout. The total project from demolition and smoke sealing to final cleaning was completed in less than three months and many thanks have to go to the valley crew. ![]() |
