Central Nova Scotia K.B. Clarke Receives 300 assignments from March 2003 Floods In one of the heaviest single day rains Nova Scotia has experienced, thousands of properties and areas sustained severe flooding. Although Halifax and Kentville did not have the amount of flooding as other areas, numerous basements did have up to five feet of standing water with large amounts of contents floating or submerged. With the amount of new claims they were facing (in addition to ongoing work), K.B. Clarke knew the most serious issues would be 1. Arranging areas to store, dry and assess damaged contents and 2. Arranging hundreds of building tearouts and drying in a timely fashion, before secondary damage such as mould formation took place. For contents processing the cleaning department arranged additional storage of almost 50,000 square feet as well as soliciting several moving companies to provide emergency services to get the contents out, so the Contents Teams could start about restoration and drying. K.B. Clarke then arranged for over 500 additional pieces of drying equipment such as pumps, air movers and dehumidifiers to be delivered. By dividing the losses in to territories and then assigning teams to these territories, K.B. Clarke was able to perform hundreds of tearouts in only a few weeks. While many customers could not be properly serviced in a timely fashion for reconstruction, overall millions of dollars of secondary damages were prevented and millions of dollars of contents were successfully saved. Once again this was only possible to the dedication and quality of the entire staff, teams and management at K.B. Clarke. ![]() |
