Atlantic Canada Hit with Severe Freezing Rain

After an extreme cold snap with very high winds K.B. Clarke found itself being called to provide emergency services for Prince Andrew High, Caledonia Junior High, Eastern Shore District High School, Tantallon Elementary and Hants East which all sustained frozen pipes and/or sprinkler systems. With the thought of schools being closed for a prolonged time, K.B. Clarke was forced to arrange around the clock crews, massive amounts of drying equipment as well as several truck mounted extraction units to ensure the schools could open quickly and ensure proper drying. Three of the 5 schools arranged other contractors and employees to complete reconstruction after drying and demolition was completed with 2 of the schools requesting that we complete repairs to expedite timely re-openings.

We’re pleased to announce that within 6 days all three of the schools arranging their own contractors we had all materials dried to below accepted construction levels. On one school, which had damage to the gymnasium hardwood, parquet flooring over 90% of this material was dried despite being completely covered in water.

Within 3 weeks we had completed repairs on the other 2 schools and despite having several classrooms out of order were able to open within 2 days of the initial call.
